Scuba diving

While nobody that knows anything about scuba diving disputes the necessity of a scuba regulator, there are some people who simply do not take enough care to make sure that these regulators stay in good condition so they will always work properly.

The hoses of regulators need to be both strong as well as flexible. This can be a challenge because they are under hundreds of pounds of pressure when being used for scuba diving in deep water. The good news is that they can be maintained. If you take care of them, they should last for quite a while. But if you are not diligent in maintaining them, there could be problems down the road.

In order to try to keep these items in good shape, you may want to follow these tips:

• Inspect before the dive – This is something that you will want to do before every dive that you go on. You need to check for any cracks, rips or abrasions. Even the smallest tear could make a huge difference. It is important that you catch potential problems before you get in the water.

• Replace hoses with damage – Any kind of damaged hose needs to be replaced. Even if it seems insignificant, play it safe since it’s your life in your own hands. Even though replacing a part could cost a little bit, this is a better alternative than having trouble in the water.

• Rinse after the dive – Salt can aid in the corrosion process of the pipes that are used with the regulator. If you simply run the equipment under some warm water in the bath tub or shower, it should stay in useable shape.

• Keep the hoses straight –They are not made to bend and twist in different directions. You can easily see how much these hoses are able to bend. Do not bend them farther than they should go. Doing this could cause damage to the hoses and affect your scuba diving trip. When the hoses are not in use, it is best to just hang them up.

• Pack carefully – Do not put any hard items next to the hoses in your gear bag. If you put heavy or hard objects near the hoses, you increase the likelihood that you will cause damage to the hoses.

• Apply protectant – By applying just a light silicon-based spray protector, you can prevent dry-rot during storage.

By doing each of the above things with your scuba regulator hoses, you will be able to keep them in good operating shape and protect your investment. And every scuba diving trip can be a safe, enjoyable and successful one.
