Dive Gear FAQs
It looks like scuba divers have a lot of equipment. Do I need
all of that?
Yes and no. When you are just starting out with scuba diving, there
are a few pieces of equipment that are absolutely vital for you to have.
This includes regulators, masks, oxygen tanks and flippers. Because
most people take scuba classes at a local pool long before they actually
get into the sea they do not need a lot of extra equipment. But, once
you get into the ocean, you are going to want other kinds of equipment
as well. This includes wetsuits and gloves in order to help protect
you from the temperature of the water as you go deeper.
How do I get my scuba certification?
Every person who wants to scuba dive needs to be certified before they
can purchase the equipment they will need. The certification is usually
a multi-week course that requires a lot of time and practice to complete
properly. During this course you will learn about breathing techniques
that will keep you safe in the water. Likewise, you will learn of the
dangers associated with descending or ascending too rapidly. Often you
can take scuba courses at public swimming pools as well as in the ocean
or river if there are people nearby that can help you.
Where are the world’s best places to scuba dive?
A lot of this answer really depends on personal preference. One place
considered the Mecca of diving is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia,
featuring vibrant colors and the greatest diversity of aquatic life
on the planet. But if you are in America, perhaps you do not want to
go halfway around the world. In the United States the two best places
to go scuba are known to be Southern California and Southern Florida.
The water is pure and pristine and there are many species there.
